School Attendance:

As per our CARE statement, we firmly believe that if children are ENJOYING their learning and have an enriching curriculum, then this will be reflected in our children's attendance.

This year has seen a huge focus on attendance by the Department for Education (DfE), and the new guidance released by them has informed our updated attendance policy.

By the end of the school year, all children's attendance should be above 95%. Any child that falls below this number is at risk of becoming persistently absent; this is when their attendance drops below 90%.

If your child is going to be absent, please can you advise Mags, ideally by 9am via the email address: attendance@bourton.school

As advised by the DfE, holidays are not authorised in term time. When a holiday is taken, unless there are exceptional circumstances, the school will have to report these circumstances to the Local Authority and a fine may be applied to parents according to statutory procedures.

Yearly Attendance Data:

  2021/2022 2022/2023 2023/2024
Absence Rate 6.9% 6.4% 6.2%
National Average 6.3% 5.9%

Whilst our data is improved each year, issues around holiday absence alongside any illness means that some pupils are persistently absent. The government have made it a target for schools to address these issues, and this is an area that we have focused on in our School Development Plan (SDP) for this year.

If you feel you or your family have any circumstances that may affect your child's attendance on a regular basis, please contact us and we will work together and support you.
