Curriculum

Our topic this term is 'Explosive Planet!' This is an exciting topic looking at the structure of our planet to understand why we get volcanoes and earthquakes. Children will use a map of the world to locate where major earthquakes and volcanoes occur and how these can affect settlements and the people living near them in geography. In science, we will look and compare different rocks and try to group them. We will then explore how soil is formed from rocks to include the formation of fossils.

English

In English, children will be writing a non-chronological report to describe what volcanoes and earthquakes are and the effect they have on settlements, with the help of their geographical knowledge.

Maths

Children will be visiting number and place value where the children will be recapping their previous skills before moving onto the Year 4 skills.

Reading: Please continue to listen to your child read daily, even for 10 minutes, and complete the reading task in the reading journal. Books should be changed regularly. Books are changed on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Maths Passport: Regular practise of Maths Passport targets helps pupils to retain knowledge and helps them to utilise these facts in other mathematical learning.

Times Tables: It is important all pupils are learning the timetables up to the 12 times table and know these by the end of year 4.
